    Default strangest thing ever

This past week I was deer huntin with my dad with a gun and I shot a doe at 130 yards. It was a complete pass through through both shoulders and she was standing broadside. She dropped like a sack of potatoes and she wasn't kicking around or nothing. When we walked up on her there was absolutely no blood, just two holes through her shoulders. After we got all of her skin off and the backstraps off we noticed that her heart was still beating. We finally stuck a knife through it. Can this be possible that she was still alive after all that and not making any noise at all? How?
Sorry if this seems gruesome and unethical but it was a freak incedent.

I'm confused. Skinned and back straps out before gutting her?

Anyway I've had that happen one time with a buddy. Shot a doe thru both shoulders. Found her 1 hour later. Went to start gutting her and the first cut resulted in blood. We all know that can't happen without a heart beat. Sure enough I could feel her heart still beating. She never moved a muscle either.

Yes sir we hunt right behind our house and we clean our deer right behind our house. So basically within 30 minutes of killing our deer we already have them hung up and skinned. So no reason to gut them really.

Anyways I guess crazy things like that can happen whenever!

Can't say that's ever happened to me or anyone I know of.

Here in MS we don't bother gutting them in the field either Pat. We can get them to our skinning shed at the camp pretty quick. Matter of fact I'd rather skin & de-bone a deer hanging, including getting the inside loins out without ever gutting them. Obviously they are exposed when I take out the loins. Also, deer weights are lower down south than midwestern deer. In most cases we can either drive up to them to load them up in a UTV or ATV or pull them out of a hole with 300' of rope then load them. I'm not going to drag or attempt to load a midwestern buck without gutting it 1st though.

The buck I shot last Wed. hit quartering away high right shoulder..he dropped on the spot...got across the crick and he was laying there blinking and breathing,,but not moving when i poked him....put 270 to his heart and he moved then, for the last time

Yeah same here. When we used to have a walk in cooler we would fully gut and hang the entire deer to age before boning out. Now just have a reach-in cooler so just hang guts out to get tenderloins out then dispose of the carcass after deboning.
