  1. A peppermint cream works well for us fishing in Alaska, but I don't know how well the mint smell will work in the woods. I think the deer may be keene to any unusual smell. Then again, mint is a natural thing so maybe animals will be fine with a mint in the air.
  2. I truly do not believe the need for meat exists. Literally every state G&F has a helpline where a needy family will get poached or road kill animals almost at will. Folks who hunt at night or off season are committing a crime and I think poacher is a good word. A guy who makes a mistake or simply didn't know the law is not a poacher to me, but still in the wrong. Simply put, poaching is the illegal taking of game. That is whether you know the laws or not. It's like driving down the highway with a 75 mph speed limit and missing the sign saying 50 mph. You'll get the same ticket not knowing the limit as the guy knowing it and taking his chance.
  3. College, and all schools, are 98% (guessed) liberals. Any conservative teacher must keep his/her mouth shut. Period. Kids today are not prepared for any conflict or to lose at anything. Our kids are weak. Teach them yourself, and let them know what to expect. I told my grandkids to go to a trade school or into the military. That, after my 2 daughters went to college and further. (Doctor). Education is great but a work ethic is even better.
  4. Less is more. Stop with Great.
  5. Great to hear, Shaun. Congrats
  6. The only problem with being retired is I don't get weekends off. lol

    New mount

Very nice. I've not seen one like that. Way to go, Sarah
  9. I hope you love the retirement thing as much as I do, Tim. Way to go.
  10. Don't you live & hunt in Durango?  Is that a general elk area? Or do you need to draw for 1st season bulls? I'm at sbeilg@aol.com. I just don't get on here much any more. Have no idea why.  Steve

  11. Great crappie. I grew up on Lake Couderay in the 1950's and we'd catch them all the time. Not so much any more.
  12. Pretty cool. I've heard mounain lions, which are louder and worse. But very similar.
  13. Time to get the boats ready for some fishing.
  14. All the advice is good. But, I'll add that if you are hunting in below zero temps get as much oil off as possible.
  15. Very good! I love it. But, here's a tic tip. If a tick is imbedded in you, put a drop of peppermint oil on it. Within seconds it will pull out and literally run away. Until you smash it, of course.
  16. As an old fart in Alaska, we have it easy. First, after we get 60 free hunting and fishing for anything.Tags are free for all animals, like my 5 deer limit. My daily halibut quota is 20, shrimp unlimited, crab 20, vehicles are $25.00 dollars for life. No state, local taxes on anything, even real estate. And, each October every resident gets $$$$ from a grand to $2500., per person. So, a family of 5 gets 5 times. The oil pipleine in 1970 paid for it all. Pretty cool.
  17. Spent my days getting ready to head home to Alaska. Hotel rooms all booked, grandkids visits all set up, and a weeks drive to Seattle then plane it up to Alaska. We sure are looking forward to going home. But the fresh grown everything in Yuma gives us the "come back" calling for next year.
  18. I left Alaska in December for Yuma, Az. It's 76 today, last week, past month, and warming up next week. I'm guessing spring is here. I leave for home in April and it will get cold again.
  19. I love country best, but christian is also good. Music pretty much left in the late 1960's for me.
  20. That's wonderful, Lewis. I haven't heard of too many folks who regretted lazer surgery on their eyes.

    Man cold alert!

Soooo much bad stuff out there again this year. It's been a long while since I was sick but Connie catches something every year. She gets a flu shot and I do not.
