  1. I know this isn't the deer area and I apologise but my son Bentley killed his first deer today. We got to the ground blind at 7am this morning on my wife's ex husband's property (his name is Devan... Bentley was taken in by my wife and him while they were still married so he calls him his other daddy lol). This morning it was really foggy and a tad cold around 35 degrees. Devan told me they cross the old logging road usually around 745 and 930... 745 came and nothing... 9 comes around and Bentley is wanting to leave because he was cold and I was wearing my uninsulated turkey hunting boots and my feet were froze too but I made him stick it out. 930 and still nothing... I tell him I want to leave no later than 11 just to be sure... I remember the last time I checked the time per his request it was 1010... What felt like seconds later Bentley is practically punching me in the leg telling me to look to my left... There stood a big doe that snuck up behind us because the heavy fog acted almost like a mist and the leaves were a little soggy... We couldn't even hear the squirrels playing in the leaves in front of us. After I finally got him to snap out of his goofy grin of excitement and get the deer in the scope. (Let me back up and say the original plan was to use my .223 AR because Bentley is deadly with it at 100 yards but with my fore grip and magazine it wouldn't fit and rest out the blind and I brought my .30-06 as backup just in case that was a problem.... To add to that ol Dad wasn't about to tell him this gun will kick a lot more than that .223 because he did ask and I played it off like it was the same hahahahahaha). The deer saw me... I made eye contact with the deer and I was getting nervous because it was literally taking him an entire lifetime from my view to get on this deer that's less than 30 yards away. The deer starts to slowly make is way in the direction it was going and I stop it just past a tree. I click the safety off and wait what seemed like another lifetime and BANG... All I see is this deer literally pouring blood out of it's chest and she drops... We both start the celebration and Bentley proclaims that gun kicks hard!!! I had a pretty good laugh at that... Y'all might not agree with me but he knows how to handle a rifle and I knew if I told him it kicked he wouldn't squeeze the trigger like he's supposed to. I've seen videos of kids killing their first deer and getting the buck fever after the fact and shaking uncontrollably. That is what happened to Bentley... I started shaking and got that same old feeling I got when I killed my first deer. Had I been thinking I would've recorded the kill from my phone but I broke out the phone for a little interview after we celebrated for a minute. Got to video the recovery. Super proud Dad moment that we'll remember forever. 20201127_102102.mp4 20201127_101556.mp4 20201127_102102.mp4

    Quarantined

So where I work for a Dept of Energy contractor they are stupidly strict on the covid expose regulations and because of them I got sent home from work Monday and couldn't return to work until cleared so you'd think that it would be a great time to hit the woods but I honestly haven't had the time. Between getting a placement for a child (the wife and I are still fostering) that we could not control last week (long story the child needs a lot of prayers and we ended up not being able to keep him) and the majority of our own children being home because of school closures due to covid I haven't even began to be able to get my hunting stuff together. Well after we got a lot of errands ran Tuesday around 1pm I found myself at home alone for about an hour or two and decided to watch some TV for some quiet time. Quite time turned into a hunt LOL... I glanced out my living room window into the field to the South of my house and saw two deer at about 130 in the afternoon. Knowing the rut is starting to kick off here in East Tennessee I decided to get my rifle out to see what they were. (Rifle was easier to find quick than binoculars). I open the window and see two deer one doe and one buck that I could not tell how big it was just could tell he was not huge but not little either. I decided to ground check him. I squeezed off a round of .30-06 at I'm guessing a range of 375??? He dropped... He got up and staggered off... Got in the truck drove into the field and found really good blood where he dropped. A quick search and he only ran 50 yards into the woods. A fine 7 point that had a broken G3 and almost tied my biggest buck. I couldn't post it on Facebook because of the work quarantine where I'm not supposed to be doing any other activities other than stuff and home and killing a deer just doesn't look like something you'd do at home but in this case it surely was!!! Found my bullet in the backside shoulder which was a first for me and I thought that was pretty cool!

    Dove season

Got a pretty nice tan line yesterday along with my two boys on the Tennessee opener for doves. The TWRA has been leasing property to hunt on for the last several years 20-25 minutes away from my house and they are becoming more and more popular. I told the boys we will get out to the field and beat everybody there to get the good spots along the tree line and so we got up at 3am and still didn't get there early enough to sit on a tree line that is 700-800 yards long. Oh and did I mention you cannot start shooting until 12pm? We got there over 8 hours early and still couldn't get a spot we wanted lol. Once 12pm came around there were was times of boredom and then there were times of not being able to keep your gun loaded and couldn't pick which bird to shoot... It took me all day long and embarrassingly 6 boxes of shells but I managed to bring home my limit plus 3 that the guy next to me let me have. All in all it was a great day.
  4. Not as in Oneida Tennessee right? Cause that's just one county over from me....
  5. It's been a long time since I've got to call you a putz on here.... Putz.....
  6. What part of the state were you going to?
  7. Try this for a little Caribbean twist on the grill. This makes enough marinade for one boneless half of a wild turkey breast. 1 TBS Kosher Salt 1 TBS Garlic Salt 1 TBS Thyme 2 TBS Whole All Spice 2 Fresh Cubanelle Peppers or 6 Annaheim Peppers (remove stems and seeds) 1 Habanero Pepper (remove stem and seeds) 1/4 cup Peanut Oil Thoroughly liquefy all ingredients in a blender. Dry the turkey breast thoroughly with paper towels. (Helps it soak in the marinade and seasoning stick while cooking) Put the turkey breast and marinade in a large ziploc bag. Shake it up to make sure the meat gets coated. Refrigerate in marinade at least two hours before cooking. (Overnight is better!) Grill the breast until done. The seasoning should stick and blacken while grilling. Enjoy! My way of doing it was slightly different because instead of the one habanero I used one poblano deseeded.... Also I've always used the Anaheim peppers never tried the cubanelle
  8. The past two nights have been wild game on the grill in the MouthCaller household... Last night was a half a deer back strap stuffed with jalapeno and cream cheese wrapped in bacon grilled to medium rare perfection and tonight is Jamaican jerk wild turkey breast on the grill. I started out with the tenderloin my making a "pocket" into it by butterflying the middle but leaving the ends attached so you can stuff two jalapeno with seeds removed (because of the kids) and almost a stick of cream cheese into the middle and I stick toothpicks to try to "sew" it back together then wrap in bacon placing toothpicks strategically to keep the bacon on... Not sure on the timing of the cook or temp but I guess I just know my grill and I cooked it time the bacon was done and the middle was medium rare. Tonight's dish is Jamaican jerk wild turkey breast that I have made a few times over the years and I actually got it off another forum. I will post that recipe in the next comment.
  9. Yeah that's it! I couldn't remember lol!
  10. Janice.... Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time 😂... I feel like there used to be a rebuttal to Janice but I can't remember it
  11. Guess I should've said who I was/used to be it's Will... Formerly KentuckyTurkey and TennesseeTurkey...

    Hey y'all

Hey everybody... I know it's slow here not like the days of 10-12 years ago but I wanted to try to catch up a little bit with you guys... I still see a lot of familiar faces from the old days who's posted in recent weeks. *Sigh*.... Where to begin..... I'm guessing the last time I posted here was 2015ish? Not even sure about that but just a guess.... Since then a lot has changed in my life... I've been divorced, gotten remarried, and I'm not exaggerating I literally went from having my one son who y'all might remember when he was born (Mason now 11 years old) to having 7 children. My current wife and I connected out of fate I guess you could say.. I lost my Dad in 2016 and also found my new bride that same year... Long story short she was told she would never be able to bear children and we got engaged and she brought her son by adoption with her so that put us up to 2 boys... We shared a want for more children so we took the only option we thought we had at the time and became foster parents. After going through the background checks, classes, home inspections and what not we were asked to take in a sibling group of 3 girls and of course we said yes so summer of 2017 Olivia 12, Kaylee 10, and Gabrielle 4 moved in with us. They all were a part of our wedding we had in August of 2017. Fast forward to Summer of 2018 a friend of ours having the same problems with infertility recommended a doctor to us in Knoxville so we started doing fertility treatments. The same month my wife became pregnant we found out our girls were not going to be able to be returned to their parents and they would be eligible to be adopted. In that same month my wife had a miscarriage. The very next month she successfully became pregnant again and this time carried full term and miss EmmaLou was born in April 2019. The father of my foster girls filed for an appeal so the adoption process was drug out to over a year later but in August of 2019 they became officially adopted. This brings us to 2 boys 4 girls. After EmmaLou was born we decided that if God wanted us to have any more children it would be because it just happened that no more fertility treatments were going to be used... Well to our surprise it happened a whole lot faster than we could've imagined because it turned out my wife was indeed pregnant again... Miss Morgan was born a little over 2 weeks ago and that brings us to 7... 2 boys, 5 girls... Olivia 14, Kaylee 13, Mason 11, Bentley 9, Brianna 7, (name change after adoption) EmmaLou almost 1, and Morgan 2 weeks. God has truly blessed us not only with the children we have but also I started a job in January of 2019 that will be no doubt my career for the rest of my life I hope. I now work for a contractor for the Dept of Energy in Oak Ridge Tennessee at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Our company removes hazardous materials out of old nuclear reactor buildings and uranium refinerys. My company has been a big part in the deconstruction of the buildings that made the uranium for the bombs dropped on Japan in WW2. Pretty sweet gig and it's incredible to see some of the thing I've had the fortune of seeing (nothing classified although that does happen if you have a clearance which I do not have lol). Hope everybody has been doing good these past few years and hopefully everybody is ok during this insanity going on currently. 20200405_200602.mp4
  13. Pulled the trigger on Sunday the second day of the season a little after 9am... Got on him the day before but couldn't get anything done with him... Next morning he was roosted in the same spot but flew down into the field on top of the hill instead of the field I was set up in... After messing around the the jakes for a little bit I slowly made my way through the woods to the field on top of the hill and crawled out to set up my decoy and started calling... Apparently I got to the field at the right time because within 15 minutes he started gobbling but he was over the backside of the hill out of view... After some cat and mouse calling for 30 minutes and him gobbling at every call I made I went silent on him and he came into view at 30 yards and at that point I could see the waddles so I sent some #5 longbeards his direction... He had a 10 1/2" beard and 1 1/8" spurs.
