Finally pistol owner in NY!

Recommended Posts

Well in NY it's a little difficult to get a pistol permit. Well my wife and I got finger printed 7-1/2 months ago and filled out all the paperwork. Everything finally got processed and I picked up two of them the other day. A Sig Sauer P226 Elite Scorpion in 9mm Para and a Ruger Mark III Hunter in 22LR.

P226 Scorpion

RugerĀ® Mark III? Hunter Rimfire Pistol Models

We're going tomorrow to pick up my wife's, a Beretta PX4 Storm compact in 9mm Para.

Anyone have any experience with any of these? Haven't had a chance to shoot them yet, but i'm sure I won't be disappointed.

Congratulations! I know its exciting to get new toys, its more of a luxury down south hear to getting a handgun. Here in Ga we just give our drivers license over the counter and purchase the pistol, same thing in SC when I lived there last year.

Your Sig, I've shot one a few times and really liked the feel of it. The Ruger is one sweet shooting pistol and lots of fun, shot one of those many, many times. I ended up going the cheaper route with Taurus's for myself and the wife with a 40 S&W for me and .380 for my wife.

I miss my Beretta 9 mm, that was one sweet shooting pistol and very accurate. I believe your wife will be just fine with this pistol, however it does have a bit more bite to it over a .380. this why I went with the .380 for my wife. The clip holds 16 rounds and handles very easy for her.

I guess my all time favorite is my 44 mag's, I've got two of them. A Ruger Super Black Hawk and TC Contender 14" SS 44 mag both I reload both.

How hard is it to get a CCWP? I couldn't believe how easy it was here in GA, paid a fee, got finger printed, photo taken, back ground check, and had permit mailed to me. It is accepted in all the states I visit but some don't honor it because you don't have to go through a CC class.

Way go you two, congratulations! Not sure how tough your county is but I'm glad to hear that you succeeded.

Now..make sure you have only 7 bullets in those clips!! :clown:

he's still an ass clown for not revising that portion as well. it's obvious he's not for his "common sense gun control" and more into pushing self interests. I've got an incorporated range next door, so he can kiss my country (butt)... with 10 rounds in each mag. rensselaer county isn't bad and the clerk is a very nice lady to deal with as well as the sheriff's office. process is long and costs money just like everywhere else but no in-person visits to see the judge during the process or anything like that. more of a chance it'll get more difficult down the road so doing it now. people who push gun control only end up making more guns sold. you think they'd have that figured out by now.

kevin NY is very tough with lots of hoops to jump through and even more spikes in the road due to newest "Safe Act" laws that have passed. separate from those new laws in this county anyway you don't get a CCW permit right from the start. maybe if you were or are active duty in the military or an LEO they would, but otherwise not happening. once you've gained some experience and are actively involved in shooting sports or have a valid reason to have a CCWP then you can fill out the paperwork and right a letter to the judge that would grant you the upgraded permit.

I'm figuring the laws might change a bit down here too but it sure is nice to not have to wait. I thought it was tough in NC when buying a handgun and waiting a week for the permit to buy a handgun, its nothing compared to NY.

So, how did the news one shoot for you and the wife?

Finally pistol owner in NY!

I'm in NJ and we have a lengthy process to get a state ID card to buy any firearm, even a shotgun. CCP is practically impossible. I lived in SC for a long time and was used to the laws there. It's been very tough adapting to this here.

Now if the SAFE act holds up in the courts you will have to undergo a recertification process in 5 years.

How much burden of proof will be placed upon us to pass the process? If you are declared ineligible to own a handgun the state has the right to seize all your guns and destroy them.

This smacks of a master plan to eventually confiscate all the guns in citizens hands to me. It's tough to remain sane when all the politicians around you are just plain crazy!

they don't even know any of the details about re-registration, only that you'll do it online. fees (hopefully not any) or anything like that hasn't been set yet. bottom line is all this will not go away unless people get to polling places come November. you should've already voted in a primary by now too. you can't just complain about them taking your guns and say they shouldn't be re-elected. people without guns could careless, but there's enough shady things going on that you can educate others to change the way they vote. it's important to keep up in times like this and be educated in what's going on. just because we've got to compete with NYC doesn't mean we can't over turn the vote. my dad's job is to get people elected in the county and he'll tell you "every vote counts".

Congrats Dan on the permit. It aint easy gettin one in NYS. Do yourself a favor. Find out if your county clerk has any opt out forms to keep the fact that your wife and you have pistol permits from prying eyes that file FOIL's to get the licensing info. Our county clerk is in a legal fight here with the local papers for them wanting the names and address' of pistol permit holders here in our county and others. They feel your neighbor should know that you have guns in your house. So they published EVERY pistol permit holders name and address from Rockland and Westchester county on their website. Smart huh? Now the thieves have a to do list and the address' to do it at.

See if your clerk has that opt out form to keep your info private.

Congrats and enjoy!
