Concealed Carry

Recommended Posts

Just curious how many guys around here believe in concealed carry. I am not asking if you do because you may not want to have that information made public but I strongly believe in an individuals right to carry.

I absolutely believe you should be able to. that said you better darn now how well to use what you're packing though. if you can't operate it without looking down at it every time or can't hit a silhouette target practically every time from 8-10 yards you should learn up and shoot then carry.

That's what great about a glock. Keep her chambered and just pull the trigger....

the striker fire design of a glock is more simple compared to say a hammer gun. if you get a Beretta, one thing you should definitely practice is making it second nature to take that decocker/safety switch off and then shoot. you can't just shoot like a DA/SA Sig, striker fire gun, or hammerless revolver. some will say there aren't any safety's on a glock either, yet technically there are more (3). they're simple though and built in so people like the guns.

you should still be proficient dropping and loading a new mag, clearing jams or misfed rounds. more so in places like here in NY or other places where mag capacities are smaller. if you're put in the horrible position and must fire on someone then you better be able to fire a 2nd follow up or more, accurately and well within a second.

packin requires a lot of preparation and discipline. more than just shooting paper targets at a range. all I'm saying.

I like the design. pretty sleek for carry and easy to rack the slide. the barrel plain is really close and low to your hand so recovery and follow ups should be very quick. if it cycles most anything without failure and it holds up over time I think it'll be a great gun.

Ted Nugent said it well when he said "A pocket knife, a clean hankie and a handgun............... the 3 things a man should NEVER be without".

I tend to agree 110%

If you're going to carry, you had better be proficient with your weapon of choice. Drawing from your choice of holster/carry location, clearing malfunctions, dropping and inserting mags, being able to hit what you are aiming at. Practice at the range is essential to ensure that proficiency. Most ranges will not allow you to draw and fire but you can practice that dry at home. I'd suggest using some dummy rounds to practice malfunctions if you have a range that will allow. Not a bad idea to set up a double feed in a semi-auto to see how that looks and how to clear one.

I am not sure how to word this without getting ripped but I do believe that you should have to show proficiency before you can exercise the right to carry. Much like driving, you should show some sort of competency. There are way too many stories about uneducated/incompetent people being shot by themselves or others. From some guy shooting off the family jewels to our most recent local story about a guy taking a chunk out of the local grocery store floor (luckily nobody got hurt) there are many people who should not be carrying anything. Open carry, legal in Montana with the exception of a few towns, also requires proficiency and opens up the possibility of someone grabbing the weapon. Training and practice are incredibly important. Everyone knows you can not fix stupid, and, stupid should not be carrying any sort of weapon.

I haven't picked out a gun yet, but I do believe in CC permits. I believe we have a right to protect ourselves at all times. People out there that don't believe in this are the ones who want to kill you or control you in some way or another. Police officers can't be every where.
