Marlin shotgun-what to do

Terrible picture, but here's the deal...My wife's uncle gave me this shotgun a few years ago. He re-married, and his wife didn't want it in the house. It is an old Marlin pump, and it has a hammer. Pretty weird design, and seems like it would be a major thumb destroyer. I can't find any model number on it, but from a little interweb searching it looks like it might be a model 19. (I'm not sure how to tell if it isn't on the gun.)The forearm was replaced years ago, with a home made one I would guess since it doesn't match the stock. It isn't in great shape, has no sentimental value to me, and doesn't appear to be worth much. On top of that I came across a few web pages that say this model is not safe to shoot for some reason. I guess the question of the day is what the heck do I do with it? Also, does anybody know where to look for a little more information on it?

I've got da skinny on those because I do cowboy action shooting. Yes it is a Model 19.

In a nutshell the gun is NOT safe and Marlin recommends that you don't use it. In fact it is illegal to use them in SASS competition because they are unsafe.

Here is a webpage that may help you. http://marauder.homestead.com/files/Marlin98s.htm

What you have is a really nice wall hanger there.

Wow. Lots of great info there Ranger...thank you sir.

That is what I was afraid of. I really have no need for a wall hanger. It's just taking up a spot in my gun cabinet that could be used for a safe and functioning firearm. I hate to do it, but occasionally they do a "gun buy-back" nearby where they give you a $100 gift card for turning in a firearm. unfortunately the gun gets destroyed, but I could use the gift card towards getting a new 20 gauge for my kids. It seems like I would be hard pressed to find someone to pay more than that for the gun, plus I would hate for someone to but it and start shooting it if it's unsafe.
