Oil Leak ???

Recommended Posts

I have had a slow drip for several months now and a friend told me to add a conditioner to the oil and it might soften the seals and stop the leak. I am no mechanic and wanted to know if anyone had any advice or new a product that might work. I drive a 2008 Chevy Silverado with 150k miles.

Some additives might work, however they are not a real fix for the problem.

Gonna guess Shaun or Lynn might know right away about common leak issues. I don't know on these newer trucks.

Have a look under the truck and figure out what area its coming from. Chances are it'll be where the transmission and engine bolt up together. Those were bad for the rear cover leaking which is the rear main seal housing. Also have seen the oil pan gaskets leak. I would add dye and shampoo the engine. Run it for a bit and inspect it with a UV light to find out exactly where its coming from. If it's the rear cover the transmission has to come out to change it.
