don't guess auto zone wants my business

Recommended Posts

Check engine light came on on our Durango and so i figured i would have the code checked. So i pull into auto zone and walk in and ask and manager tells me their reader it's broken and went on to also tell me it is common for them to go out. Ummm ok, more info than i asked for but i thought auto zone sold obdc readers and had them on the tool aisle. Seems if i were the manager i would take one of the shelf if it made me just one sale and helped a customer, it would be worth it. Not the first time gotten poor service from that store.

Oh well, guess I will go elsewhere for parts from now on. Meanwhile no idea what set it off, suppose maybe i should buy a reader off ebay?

I quit shopping at AutoZone years ago. Half of the parts I bought ended up getting returned because they were junk. We have an O' Reilly in town and the guys there are pretty decent to deal with. The O2 sensor needs changed on the wife's Suburban, so her engine light has been on for a few weeks now.

Thing is the young guys in the store are pretty good to deal with, very helpful. It is the older people working there and the manager woman who act like they are doing you a huge favor just to look up a part. I am done with them though, will only be exchanging lifetime parts i already have.

O Reilly store just up the road is decent, manager there seems like he wants business with price matching and willing to help. I will probably run by there this week and have them scan it.

Hate when businesses have attitudes like that. We don't have either of those stores in Canada but similar ones. Haven't really had a bad experience with any of them, and with me being a licenced automotive technician I get a pretty good discount. Anything my family owns is GM, so I usually get parts from the dealer I worked at for 7 years, they're still good to me and give me my employee discount lol. I'm lucky to have a Tech 2, which is the GM scanner. Funny you mention that Mudrunner, my girlfriend's Trailblazer also flagged an O2 sensor code about a month ago, still haven't got around to changing it!

William, wouldn't hurt to buy one of the cheap code readers like you were saying, then you have it. You can get a decent one for under 100 bucks. I had one from Matco that was about 150, it even read live data which was handy. Had it in my toolbox in case I was working on something other than a GM. Worked great til someone liked it more than I did and stole it.

Code was for small emissions leak, probably loose gas cap. Actually had this code trip quite some time back and not had it trip again until this recent issue. Had them reset it, will see if it trips again. Has lifetime powertrain warranty, if this becomes an ongoing issue will take it to the dealer for them to sniff out to make sure there is not really an emission leak somewhere.

With whatever, done with autozone. My oldest daughter had to go in last week for some things and she got horrible service, unfortunately what she needed was not available at oreilly. Motor parts is good, they are a napa parts dealer, but a lot of their stuff is a bit overpriced.
