Broadhead Weight

Recommended Posts

Is there a preferred broad head weight for a crossbow, or is it personal preference? I've been using 125 grains, but I couldn't tell you why.

Would suggest checking with what the bow manufacturer says. I know barnett gives recommendations for the model I have and suggests 100 grain heads with their bolts. Bolts come with 100 field points. Anything lighter isn't recommended.

Read a warning with my setup not to go lighter total arrow/bh weight than manufacturers suggestion. You may pick up some speed but may also run the risk of damage to your crossbow. Also need to keep proportionate balance, this is why I bought the same bolts as what came with my package.

Don't think going over would hurt anything but would slow your speed a little.

I recently got involved with using a crossbow. You need to see what kind of bolts you are using. The normal is 125 grain with the standard bolt, but some bolts like the Red Hots I am currently using. Have an insert that allows me to use a 100 grain tip. Which will then make the 125 grain on the front end.
