Realtree and the NWTF........ ?????

Recommended Posts

Just noticed that there is, apparently, no Realtree booth/display at the NWTF Convention this year. Annnnd............ Realtree is not listed on the NWTF website as a partner anymore.

Been a few years since I attended a convention.  But Realtree always had about the biggest display in the place.........

Anyone know whaddup with that ??

Realtree hasn't really done anything really new in the camo world in almost 10 years.  They took AP and turned it into Extra which really wasn't a change.  While Mossy Oak has been making patterns like the older Hardwoods that we all loved.  Seems like the focus has been on kids with their Realtree Life campaign.  It's no wonder that they were dropped.

Yep...Mossy Oak Obsession is the official camo of the NWTF this year.

When Toxey sold the company a number of years back, Mossy Oak lost market share to Realtree.  Since then they've been working to regain market share.  During that time, like RangerClay said, Realtree hasn't done much with new camo designs to compete with Mossy Oak, especially aimed toward concealment for turkey hunters.  Just my $0.02.

I hate to say it, but honestly from a marketing stand point I feel that Realtree is falling behind. I get e-mails from Mossy oak all the time about new camo patterns, 40% off sales, & their tree nursery and food plot sales and articles. I've never even bought anything from them, so not sure how I get the e-mail blasts. I've looked threw their online store a few times, and they have way more selection of hunting clothes and better sales than RT does. Honestly i can't remember the last time, if ever, I got an e-mail from RT.

That's odd...I get them from RT all the time.  Got one today for a 20% off sale on women's clothing.  Apparently RT doesn't have your email address.

Hmm. I wasn't even aware that they sent out e-mails lol. I've bought from the Rt store a few times over the years, plus been a member here for a long time now. I would think they should have it, but who knows.

Get emails from rt from time to time here, do not recall ever getting any from mossy oak.

Honestly the stuff here locally I see from mossy oak I don't see anything that I believe would be as versatile for here as AP.  Maybe that is why they are continuing to try to find something that works better?

Dunno about the partnership or why rt has no booth at the nwtf this year, sure Tim would have some insight there.  Used to be that he was always there along with others like David Blanton.  Last time we went was I think in 2009 or 2010.  Last few years it was in Nashville we missed going, I really enjoy visiting with some of the "pro's" and seeing some of the exhibits, but could care less about the wall to wall people.

That's too bad, since we all know Realtree is the best Camo going. Mossy Oak's newer Camo, is looking more like Realtree camo every time they come out with a new pattern.

Here is a great example of what I'm talking about.  Here is a picture from last fall.  It was second week of bow season and every deer was picking me off.  At some point I stood up to stretch and I put my hand on the tree to steady myself.  It was then that I looked at my hand and realized why I was seen.  It was my outline.  I was a tan blob in front of a cherry tree.  Needless to say I went and got me some new camo that blended in better and it wasn't Realtree.

Great point Ranger....I also can admit I have some came that is not Realtree....but it's darker. Realtree needs to do something new...they've fizzled out a little bit

I too have run across this issue and have been using True Timber lately with good results.  Tried it mainly because it is made right here in Spartanburg, SC and they have a good range of light to dark patterns that work well here in the dense thickets we have.  I did hear a rumor that True Timber may be selling out to Bass Pro though or at least partnering with them.

Matching camo to the bush you hunt should be done prior to hunting. Don't see how your example is a downfall of RT?

I wear Max-1 and Max-1 Extra in Colorado, I wouldn't wear AP or Extra up there. It wouldn't blend. Here at home AP does well in the oaks but not so well in the pines. Predator Camo is a good one to use in the pines.

Mossy Oak does well too.....well their newer camo does. The older stuff is too dark in my opinion. I own mostly RT camo and have no complaints with it.

Not knocking anybody here... but thats the first thing I thought of with the photo ...RT does have camo that would better match up...imo

Hardwoods might be a more effective pattern for that Joe or even advantage timber, dunno.  Yeah the rt ap is kind of light, my fleece insulated stuff is a little light for the red oaks I have stands in, but still works fine as long as I am not moving around and have a little leaf clutter around to break me up.  You guys lose leaves a lot earlier than we do.

Some of the vertigo stuff from scent lok looks great.

I had pretty good luck seeing a good number of deer from one spot in a red oak, stand was hung on the west side of the tree and the tree is wider than my body. It is on a fence row and there is really not a lot back behind it, but some cover in front from some little trees, even late season when the leaves were off had does walk practically right under me oblivious that I was there.  Anyway I mostly wore AP, thought I would stand out, but must not have.  That was the stand I had two opportunities on the 9 point I ended up taking later on.  One of those mornings was sunny and after 8 am, deer were clueless I was there.  Think next year I may use some old Christmas tree branches in some other spots I want to hang stands where I don't have a lot of leaves.

I maybe should have picked up one of the leafy bugsuits on clearance in my size at wally world in mo.  They had a few in mo, but none my size in rt so I passed. The mo stuff looked kind of drab and dark, probably not much better than the old green army camo.
