Replacement cape question

Recommended Posts

How much can a decent taxidermist do with a cape to match up to pics?  Is it possible to airbrush in white on the forehead of a cape to match up to pics?

Would you expect to pay more for extra work like this and if so how much would be normal?

My taxidermist sells capes for 30 dollars. I've never heard of air brushing a cape. I decided to just hold off on buying a cape and used one from a friend that wasn't mounting his deer that was about the same size. I'm more concerned with matching the size first then color.

Thanks for the reply Frank.  I had know taxidermists use airbrush on capes around the throat patch, and for detail work around eyes, nose, and ears.  No idea how trying to grey/whiten the face and forehead would work out if even possible, but would sure make her mount look more like the deer she shot if it was.

After the taxidermist looked at her deer's head he said he was doubtful he could ever make another cape look even close to the same.  Guess we will just have to see how things work out.  Who knows, maybe I will find a little late season luck on a poor racked older buck for a closer match.
