it's too early

Recommended Posts

The last day of May and we are inundated with smoke from the fires burning in Alberta, where close to 1,000 square miles have already gone up in smoke.  Thank you Canada.  I'm sure we will return the favor this summer.

View from my office window, where even the hummingbird is confused.

What I should see.

Does seem early for hearing about those conditions.  Hope they get the fires under control, and some shifting winds carry the smoke away from you.

I had to come in the house to get out of the smoke as it was giving me a headache.  At least the wind is changing back to its normal southwestern flow and should drive the smoke back to the north by tomorrow.  I hope this isn't a preview of what's in store for this summer.

Several hotshot crews from Montana are now trying to be of assistance in fighting the fires in Alberta but the fires have gotten so large I think that the only thing that will help is a prolonged rain event.  Being spread over such a wide area, these fires are making it difficult to coordinate equipment and manpower.  As summer approaches and temperatures rise it will probably only get worst.

Sad to see the current cycles, some shifting of natural patterns would sure help alleviate some of the problems.  Middle of the country being inundated with water and west so dry.  Been kind of dry here the past month or so, went from way above average rainfall in the late winter early spring to the spigot being shutoff.  Ground was too muddy to do anything then got hot and dry.  Was hotter in May than it has been in June so far too.
