Hey guys.  Urban season has kicked off here but I haven’t had any luck.  Statewide season starts next week.  I will also be traveling to Illinois in mid November.  Good luck to everyone and I look forward to sharing updates along the way!

I’m on stand tonight hunting a buck that I have three years of history with.  He’s 5.5 this year with a typical 10 frame and some trash.  Fingers crossed, I get to hunt him tonight and tomorrow.

Season opened last week.  I've been out 3 times and haven't seen much.  Couple of does and young bucks.

I've got a 4 day weekend coming up and with this cold front coming in, I should see more deer on their feet.

Good luck to everyone!

I was able to take two does on Monday night, but I completely forgot to snap pictures so points will have to wait until the next doe.

I was shooting the G5 Havoc(2 inch cut) on both does and they both were heart shots.  Surprisingly neither broad head deployed properly until exit.  In fact, the holes through both hearts were approximately 1 inch along with the entrance holes.  The second doe I shot only ran about 40 yards, but she stayed alive for approximately 7 minutes being shot through the heart.

This makes the 7th deer I’ve shot with a two blade rear deploying expandable and 5 of the 7 did not deploy on impact or undeployed on exit.  It’s not an energy issue because I’m shooting 80lbs with 9.5 grain arrows now and the previous was with FMJ’s.

I guess I’ll stick with 3 blade over the top expandables, definitely has me scratching my head.

Congrats Hoosier. I’m surprised those G5’s did that. I shoot them in Mathews and in my crossbow never had any problems with them

Shot a yearling doe last night.  The big doe wouldn't come in close enough for a shot and I needed the meat!

I switched to Muzzy 3 blades this year.  There was hardly any blood trail at all.  She only ran 70 yards before she died, though.

My favorite time is finally here! Cameras are starting to light up, food plots look great and the leaves are really starting to fall.  Up to this point I’ve been hunting one buck, but now I will also be chasing a few others as we close out October.  I have three years of history with my top three deer along with multiple years on a few others we are keeping tabs on.  Illinois is also right around the corner!  The next three weeks are a deer hunters dream!!!!

Today is day 5 of our rifle season, I’m in my stand now lol. Chilly quiet morning here. No luck yet, just does and calves. The bucks here don’t usually move around much in the daytime this early in the season. Good luck everyone.

8 days away from my two week vacation.  Going to hunt four different areas during that time.  Two here in Oklahoma, one in Arkansas and one in Kentucky.  Would be nice to kill three bucks....never happen. LOL

I just turned an arrow loose in Illinois!  It all happened very fast and I’m still in the blind now.  I think he’s at least an 8 with chocolate horns.  I feel good about the shot, but he was in some tall weeds at 40 yards so we are going to give him some time.  I know my arrow didn’t pass through.  Fingers crossed and hopefully some pictures to follow later today!!!

Here he is!  The shot was perfect, double lunged and He only made it 40 yards!

I was sitting back in an area that is about 300 acres of just thick-twisted nasty jungle over a 1 acre food plot in the center.  The morning started rough when one blind widow wouldn’t stay open at first light.  Upon trying to adjust it, I looked out and a shooter 8 was staring at me head on 35 yards away.   He whirled and took off making me think I had just blown my one opportunity or the week.  Everything slowed down for about an hour.  I was texting a buddy about my mishap and looked up to find this buck entering the foodplot.  He was cutting through an opening that was only 10 yards wide.  None of my windows were open to make matters more interesting.  He promptly walked through the lane without stopping to any of my noises.  I use a single pin sliding sight which I keep set at 20 yards.  Due to the frantic timing I couldn’t range him or adjust my sight.  Thankfully he stopped right before exiting into the autumn olive when I said “HEY”. I estimated him at 40 yards, put the pin just over his back and let it fly.  Due to the tall weeds it was very tough to tell exactly where impact was, but I knew the shot looked & felt great and that I didn’t pass through him.  Just to be sure we waited until 11 to take up the track job.  I didn’t take long, we found the arrow about 15 yards yards away and he was just 20 yards past that.  This was my 5th time coming down to hunt Illinois and this was the first arrow I let fly. I pumped up and ready to jump in a stand back home!!!

Hi guys, sorry I'm late to the party but my new job has sucked up much of my free time for the computer.  I harvested a nice 8 point last weekend and I will have it entered very soon.
