2020 summer plots

Recommended Posts

Finally starting to dry out here and had weather cooperate. Got my plots sprayed with glyphosate and 2 4d on Friday.  Had one sketchy spot to cross with the little Kubota, thankfully made it across both ways without getting stuck.

Hoping to run the tiller through next weekend.  Rural king could not order the 4.7 beans I had used in the past so went with 4.0.  Really thinking I may need to push back planting to first of July, don't want them to mature too early.

Anyone else working on plots?

I broadcasted 15 Lbs per acre of clover on my existing  1 acre clover plot to enhance it. Plot was too good to turn over yet, it seems to be coming up well. I have farm fields on both sides here, so corn and Alfalfa are abundant. All I need is a place they can stage, and get a bite of lush clover, and a Rage. Have mowed it once, due for 2nd mowing soon.

Mowed the clover once here as well.  Debated fertilizing and liming it, but it looks pretty good, probably hold off until late summer.  Will try to snap some pics next time I get back there.  Have clover I planted in one small pasture that the cows are keeping mowed down for me.

Looking at the extended forecast think I am going to shoot for the first weekend in July for planting the soybeans.

Scattered thunderstorms have turned into heavy long lasting soakers here this morning.  Doubtful at this point my ground will dry out enough to get my plots in this weekend.  Real shame I could not get my seed in the ground ahead of this.

Have had crazy amounts of rainfall this past week.  Dunno if I will be able to get seed in the ground this weekend or not.  Prefer not to get the tractor in the plots when they are this muddy.  Shot these over the weekend.  Hopefully will not rain anymore between now and Sunday and will be able to get them finished off.

Clover needs mowed again, might spray it with clethodim.

Got my soybeans broadcast Saturday afternoon, 140 lbs in the back plot and about 60 lbs in the bottom.  Pulled a drag over them, did not get them covered as well as I would have liked.  Was a 40 percent chance of rain for Sunday.  Ended up not raining.  Had several days this week with rain in the forecast before Saturday, chances looking less likely now.

Will get some pics when green starts popping up.

Mowed the clover yesterday, second time this year.  A lot of seed and good healthy stand with just a little grass.  Will fertilize and lime it ahead of a rain sometime in August.  May still hit it with clethodim to knock back the grass.

Looked at the soybean plots, considered using the little Kubota to roll the seed in but noticed a few spots where there was germination.  Guess there was just enough soil moisture and humidity to get them going.  Really need a good soaker.  Have not had any rain since planting despite several days that were forecast with a 40 percent or better chance.  Was also several dust bowl in the plot, sure the turkey poults and hens are finding some of the seed.

FINALLY!!!  We got a FROG strangler!  Power was out, and we had one road wash out, with 4.5 to 5 inches, one person two miles S.W. said he got 7

That pounded in my seed, which is all it needed. Clover plot will now take off , new plants were looking for moisture.

Just need to fertilyze the new kill plots, and prob mow the clover one more time.

Managed to get back this morning to swap cards in cams and snapped a few pics.  A lot of seed floated but still have decent coverage for broadcasting and have a lot of green popping up.  Should take off pretty well with yesterday's rain.

got half an inch about 1 a.m. with a Spectacular Light Show!  Started raining at 11 a.m. and it has been one of those wet, drippy days, that come with spurts of showers on and off.
